HERITAGE BREED OLD STYLE MEAT CHICKENS

We breed many rare and old style breeds of poultry and help to keep their genetics from being lost by supplying to many customers around the country. There has always been an oversupply of males as hens lay eggs and breeders only need one rooster to cover a flock of hens. We have been working on some of the old style dual purpose breeds where the hens are decent egg layers and the cockerels were good eating. Breeds like Plymouth Rock and Rhode Island Red from America and Light Sussex and Buff Orpington from England. These birds have not been farmed commercially in Australia for generations but we now will have birds available. It has been said the best way to preserve a rare breed is to eat it and to then make it popular so more people keep them. We are exited by the fact that Heritage breeds of poultry are once again available to purchase and people have a choice.
